2026 Summer Research Fellowships

Applications are now open for all categories of summer research fellowships. This year, the College of Design is offering undergraduate, graduate and international summer research fellowship opportunities, funded through the UK Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) and the College of Design.  Working with faculty mentors, students may apply for stipends of up to $5,000 to fund their independent summer research proposal. Eligibility criteria and proposal guidelines should be reviewed prior to the submission of an application.

Turner appointed to Interior Design Educators Council’s Board of Directors

Helen Turner, director of the School of Interiors in the University of Kentucky College of Design, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC), the leading association and authority on interior design education made up of more than 20,000 scholars.

Fall 2025 Dean's List announced

Congratulations to the College of Design students that made the Dean's List for the Fall 2025 semester. To make a Dean’s List in one of the UK colleges, an undergraduate student must earn a grade point average of 3.6 or higher and must have earned 12 credits or more in that semester, excluding credits earned in pass-fail classes.

Recycling redefined: Interiors student research turns waste into art and opportunity

At the end of each semester, University of Kentucky College of Design students are tasked with cleaning their studio space, removing any of the semester’s projects and organizing their materials before heading off for break. Junior interiors student Jackie Skeeters and School of Interiors faculty are looking at ways to make this process more environmentally sustainable by building awareness around the college and university’s recycling efforts.    

PRD students sweep design category at 2025 Oswald Research and Creativity Awards

Spring 2026 Elective Preservation Design Studio

What makes a successful modern intervention within a historic context? This studio explores that question through design thinking, case studies, and hands-on projects across Kentucky. Students will design restoration, adaptive reuse, and contextual infill projects, learning how to balance innovation with preservation and engage local planning and preservation groups. Embrace ambiguity. Challenge assumptions. Discover how modern design and historic fabric can coexist meaningfully.

IIE NextGen Service Fellowship connects student design to global impact

As an inaugural recipient of the Institute of International Education’s (IIE) NextGen Service Fellowship, Kauner Shacklette was tasked with putting his design knowledge into action by reimagining spaces that could help an Ethiopian YMCA better serve its community.
