The College of Design has a higher percentage of students that participate in Education Abroad programs than any other college at the University of Kentucky. Faculty-led programs in the College have traveled to Brazil, Chile, Denmark, Ecuador, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and many other destinations. Studying abroad is an invaluable experience for students, allowing them to experience new perspectives and cultures through the lens of design education.

Designing his own path: UK grad’s journey from first-gen student to future architect

Kauner Shacklette, a May 2026 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Design and the Lewis Honors College (LHC) from Vine Grove, Kentucky, can thank his dislike of calculus for leading him to his career as a future architect.
