The Silver Medal is one of the highest honors presented by Tau Sigma Delta chapters. It recognizes professionals who have demonstrated a sustained and meaningful record of distinction in architecture, landscape architecture, or the allied arts. Recipients are selected by the society’s student members, a unique aspect of the award that makes it especially meaningful to its honorees.

Chugh, who is known not only for her design expertise but also for her deep commitment to fostering student growth and belonging, expressed gratitude for the recognition, especially because it came from the students she works so passionately to support.

“I have never viewed myself as an academic with a ‘capital A,’” Chugh said. “I entered this field because of my passion for helping students see the possibilities — both in their work and themselves. It’s exceptionally affirming to know that students recognize my intentions for what they are. It’s ALL about them.”

That passion for student-centered education is exactly what inspired Chugh’s nomination. In a statement from the students who selected her, they praised her as a steadfast advocate, listener, and mentor.

"Aanya has been such a great advocate and professor for interiors students,” one student wrote. “Whenever we have an issue or need help, she actually takes the time to listen to us to come up with the best solution that works for everyone. For me personally, I have had many health issues this semester and she has been so kind and accommodating to me. I've been able to stay completely on track in her class and others because of her generosity.”

As director of community belonging, Chugh has played a leading role in creating a culture where students feel seen, heard and valued. Her work continues to shape the College of Design’s commitment to education that is as compassionate as it is rigorous.
