Steven Flanagan FAIA, LEED AP, Principal and Director of Higher Education at LPA Design Studios, was recently elevated to the AIA College of Fellows.

Flanagan graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Architecture in 1988.  He worked his way through Philadelphia to California in 1989 and began working for LPA in 1994. He went to LPA, a firm of 35 people, to start their education practice, and today they are an integrated design firm of over 400 professionals collaborating operating six offices in California and Texas. This year they will bill approximately $121M, with half of that revenue generated from education projects.

Said Flanagan, "LPA is a very special place that has allowed so many people to passionately express themselves and to belong to a family of likeminded design professionals." He notes that the University of Kentucky professors that inspired him the most include Leonardo Ricci, Pucci Ricci, Jose Oubrerie, Clyde Carpenter and Chuck Graves.

“Nearly 35 years ago I watched my professors, Leonardo Ricci and Pucci Ricci, weep as Leo shared his love for being an architect while he was standing in front of the last building he had designed, the Palace of Justice in Savona, Italy,” Flanagan remembers. “I thought then, ‘I hope that someday I can stand in front of a building that makes me that proud.’ And thanks to UK and LPA I can stand in front of hundreds of projects I’m proud to say I was a part of.”
