Gray Design Building to house Lexington Camera Club’s biennial exhibition
The University of Kentucky College of Design and the Department of Landscape Architecture will host the Lexington Camera Club’s Conjure 2025 biennial exhibition, Sept. 8-Oct. 17 in the Gray Design Building’s gallery.
The show will be open to the public Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and will also be a featured stop in LexArts Gallery Hop on Friday, Sept. 19, from 5-8 p.m., marking the College’s first time as a gallery stop in the citywide arts event.
Featuring the work of 35 photographers, Conjure 2025 continues the Lexington Camera Club’s tradition of presenting new and diverse approaches to photography. The exhibition explores how images can transform the everyday into something extraordinary, inviting viewers to see the world in new ways.
"For many of us, exhibiting in the newly reborn Gray Design Building feels like a true homecoming, returning to the place where we studied, taught and first shared our work decades ago when this space was the School of Arts and Visual Studies' Reynolds Building," said Guy Mendes, a member of the Lexington Camera Club.
The show’s display space, the Gray Design Building’s gallery, was renovated as a part of the 2024–25 Provost IMPACT Award project “Expanding the University of Kentucky Arts Ecosystem,” which aims to position UK as a cultural anchor for the region. This co-hosted exhibition highlights the College of Design’s commitment to strengthening connections between the university and Lexington’s arts community, advancing that very goal.
“Exhibitions like Conjure turn the Gray Design Building into a vibrant hub for artistic dialogue, bringing students, faculty and the Lexington community together and advancing the Arts Ecosystem project’s mission of making the arts accessible to all," said Lindsey Fay, the College’s associate dean for research.
Conjure 2025 and the LexArts Gallery Hop are both free and open to the public. The Gray Design Building is located at 349 Scott Street, Lexington, KY 40506, and the gallery is located on the first floor. Upon entering, turn left up the small set of stairs, and the gallery will be on the left by the elevator.
About the Lexington Camera Club
Founded in 1936, the Lexington Camera Club has a long history in the region’s arts community, encouraging Central Kentucky creatives to consistently come together to share and discuss photography. Following a four-decade hiatus, the historic club found its way back into the Lexingtonian lexicon and was officially revived in 2014. Since then, the club has maintained a consistent biennial exhibit hosted at several notable locations across Central Kentucky, the last of which was on display at the Loudoun House in 2023.
