Design Symposium Undercommoning The Urban Campus

The Undercommoning the Urban Campus Symposium brings together scholars from art, architecture, public history, and urbanism to examine the histories, reckonings, and futures of the modern urban university. Exploring themes such as campus as “UniverCity,” monumentality, and town–gown relations, the symposium creates a forum for dialogue across disciplines. Open to all, it will be of special interest to students and faculty in design, social sciences, and cultural studies.

Interiors Graduate Program: Virtual Open House

The graduate program in the School of Interiors explores the interdisciplinary territory of environmental design, engaging students in research and studio work that addresses social, behavioral and ecological dimensions of interior environments. Housed within a Research 1, land-grant university with internationally recognized faculty and access to state-of-the-art fabrication facilities, the program emphasizes design research through cross-disciplinary scholarship and experimental inquiry.

Lecture and Workshop Natural Building with Ziggy Liloia

Join Ziggy Liloia for a lecture and workshop exploring natural building methods and materials. With years of experience building with mud and other natural materials, he leads workshops year-round and has designed and constructed numerous homes and structures across the U.S. This lecture will introduce key concepts of building with natural materials—namely clay, straw, wood, and stone—and emphasize the use of locally available resources, energy-efficient design, environmental benefits, and the creative and aesthetic opportunities these materials offer.

UK students transform parking spot into pop-up park

Students from the University of Kentucky College of Design and the UK Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment’s Department of Landscape Architecture recently turned an ordinary parking spot into an extraordinary gathering space during Park(ing) Day, an annual international event that reimagines how public spaces can be used.
