Bridging the gap: UK graduate student uses knitted e-textiles to meet accessibility needs

Recycling redefined: Interiors student research turns waste into art and opportunity

At the end of each semester, University of Kentucky College of Design students are tasked with cleaning their studio space, removing any of the semester’s projects and organizing their materials before heading off for break. Junior interiors student Jackie Skeeters and School of Interiors faculty are looking at ways to make this process more environmentally sustainable by building awareness around the college and university’s recycling efforts.

Fourth-year PRD students Jackson Deye, Kiefer Howland and Connor Sinewe have been hard at work since May designing a mobile pin-up panels that bring flexibility and creativity to studio spaces across our building as part of a research project with assistant professor SK O'Brien.  Now, you can see their full design journey, from early sketches to prototypes to the final product, in “Product Design: In Process,” the newest installation in the Gray Design Building's Gallery.

PRD students sweep design category at 2025 Oswald Research and Creativity Awards

The University of Kentucky Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) recently announced the 21 undergraduate winners of the 61st annual Oswald Research and Creativity Awards. Chad Risko, Ph.D., faculty director of the Office of Undergraduate Research, and Research Ambassadors, presented the awards.

IIE NextGen Service Fellowship connects student design to global impact

As an inaugural recipient of the Institute of International Education’s (IIE) NextGen Service Fellowship, Kauner Shacklette was tasked with putting his design knowledge into action by reimagining spaces that could help an Ethiopian YMCA better serve its community.

Fugate appointed as KY Housing Corporation-Groves Endowed Professor

Jeff Fugate, associate professor of extension in the University of Kentucky School of Architecture, has been named the Kentucky Housing Corporation-John Russell Groves Endowed Professor of Housing. The professorship was established in 2002 to promote research into affordable housing design and delivery.

Innovation on wheels: Stratasys 3D-printing truck to visit campus

The University of Kentucky College of Design invites the community to visit the Stratasys 3D Printing Truck 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at the Gray Design Building. This mobile showroom will provide a hands-on opportunity to explore how 3D printing is shaping the future of design, manufacturing and problem-solving across a variety of fields. 

Interiors faculty, grad student selected for IDEC Virtual Symposium

University of Kentucky School of Interiors faculty members, as well as an interiors graduate student, were selected to present their research at the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) Virtual Symposium on Oct. 30-31.  

Bartlett named 2025-26 TEK Faculty Fellow

The University of Kentucky’s Office of Transdisciplinary Educational approaches to advance Kentucky (TEK) has announced the TEK Faculty Fellows for the 2025-26 academic year. A critical mission of TEK is the development of new transdisciplinary courses and the reimagining of existing courses to emphasize one or more essential employability skills. To accomplish this, TEK is leveraging the expertise of a new cohort of TEK Faculty Fellows.
