Housing Now: A Panel Discussion

In its long history as a typology, the architecture of housing has never been as relevant as it is today. What new forms of architecture are needed to respond to the ever-changing challenges of housing? Three leading architects whose practices focus on housing will present work that spans a variety of contexts and design approaches. Following the presentations there will be a panel discussion and a Q&A with the audience.

Lawrence Scarpa, FAIA | The Power of Beauty

Why do we remember buildings, locations and experiences? Even a place visited in our childhood can conjure emotions that make an impact on us through the memories they create. Lawrence Scarpa will explain the creative process that aspires to make a lasting impression out of even a brief encounter.

All College Meeting

The College of Design will hold its annual All-College Meeting on Monday, August 26 from 1-2pm in the Harris Ballroom at the Gatton Student Center. Note that this is a new location from previous years. There will be signs placed in the Student Center to guide students and faculty to the Harris Ballroom, which is located on the third floor.

Jeff Fugate Selected for the Academy for Public Scholarship on the Built Environment

Jeff Fugate, associate professor of extension in the School of Architecture, has been selected for the 2024 Cohort for the Academy for Public Scholarship on the Built Environment: CLIMATE ACTION.

2024 Graduate Research Summer Fellowships Available

The College of Design is offering graduate students summer fellowship opportunities funded through the College of Design Office of Research. Working with faculty mentors, graduate students may apply for stipends of up to $2,000 to fund their independent summer research proposal.

Jon Mills receives IDSA award

Jon Mills, Director of UK's Department of Product Design, was one of 24 individuals recognized the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) in 2023 for his contributions to the field. The 20/2x recognition program began in 2020 as a way to highlight IDSA members "who dedicated their time and talents this year to the betterment of our Society and advancing the industrial design profession through information, education, community, and advocacy."

Undergraduate Work-Study Research Assistantships

In Fall 2023, the College of Design will be offering a number of faculty-directed undergraduate student research assistantships as part of UK’s work-study research assistant program (WRAP). The deadline to apply is October 20. 

Gray Design Building Update | October 2023

We are at an exciting juncture as progress on the Gray Design Building continues to unveil the University of Kentucky's vision for an innovative and collaborative workspace for all design programs at UK.? ?Construction began a little more than a year ago, but the transformation of the building has been remarkable; the former Reynolds Tobacco warehouse is distinctly evolving into the future Gray Design Building.

Berlin Summer Architecture Studio returns in 2024
