Seonghyuk Son, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the School of Architecture at the University of Kentucky. His work explores how emerging technologies can improve the interaction between people and the built environment. His research focuses on human-building interaction, extended reality, human-centered AI, and smart home technologies, with applications in indoor environmental quality and responsive building systems. Using experimental and data-driven approaches, he investigates human comfort, health, and performance to inform the design and operation of built environments.
 
Son received his Ph.D. in Design and the Built Environment from Clemson University and his B.S. in Architecture from Ajou University. Prior to joining the University of Kentucky, he worked as an Assistant Development Engineer at the California Lighting Technology Center, where he contributed to research and development projects involving lighting technologies, smart home energy management, and building controls. He also worked as an Architectural Engineer at LOTTE Engineering & Construction, with professional experience in residential construction and building systems.
