Martin Summers
Associate Professor
Martin Summers has two decades of experience across a variety of project types and scales. After founding PLUS-SUM Studio in 2012, his first project was recognized as part of the 2013 AIA Emerging Professionals Exhibition in Washington, D.C. At the 8th IDA International Design Awards, three of his projects received 5 awards, including the top prize “Architectural Design of the Year 2014.” In 2017, Summers tested his multi-scalar approach in two simultaneous projects that blurred the lines between academia and practice. In one, he led a design-build studio with David Biagi as part of the inaugural Exhibit Columbus, University Installations in Columbus, Indiana. In the other, he led a master-planning project with Tobias Armborst of Interboro Partners for the Malaysia Biennial (ultimately exhibited at the Venice Biennale Sessions 2018). Martin is an Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Kentucky College of Design where he leads architecture studios focused on iterative digital processes and teaches electives in advanced digital methodologies. He is committed to education and an open, engaging dialogue around contemporary practice.
Previously, Mr. Summers worked 10 years at Morphosis Architects in Santa Monica. He received his Masters of Architecture from UCLA, and his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Kentucky College of Architecture, now the College of Design.
