Slip Casting - Spring 2025 Elective
This Spring 2025 elective course explores the art and technique of slip casting, a ceramic process that involves pouring liquid clay (slip) into plaster molds to create precise, repeatable forms.
Students will gain hands-on experience in mold-making, slip preparation, and casting, as well as digital tools for form development. Using CAD software and 3D printing, students will design custom prototypes that push the boundaries of traditional ceramics. This integration of digital and physical processes allows for greater experimentation with complex shapes, textures, and modular designs. Emphasizing both functional and sculptural applications, the elective encourages creative exploration while developing technical skills. No prior experience required; open to all design students.
