Graduate Certificate in Historic Preservation (Online)
About the Certificate
The Department of Historic Preservation’s fully online 12-credit graduate certificate provides working professionals and adult learners an opportunity to enhance existing careers and open new doors by gaining an an understanding of historic preservation. From archaeologists to engineers, agency employees to private practitioners, online certificate students come from a range of backgrounds and bring a great deal of practical and professional experience to the program.
The online program was designed with flexibility in mind, allowing students to complete their work at the time of day and week that best suits their schedule. Online certificate students pay the same tuition rate as in-state, part-time graduate students regardless of residence. The course content is delivered using the Canvas Learning Management System, and all courses are taught by faculty in the Department of Historic Preservation. Courses typically include short videos or lectures, readings, podcasts, and assignments. Additionally, course discussions create a community of learning where students interact with and learn from their professors and peers.
Admission Requirements
Applications for the certificate programs are accepted on a rolling basis, with opportunities to start in spring, summer, or fall.
The following are required to apply for the on-campus graduate certificate in Historic Preservation:
- Transcripts from all higher education institutions attended. Applicants must have obtained a baccalaureate degree from a fully accredited U.S. institution of higher learning or from a recognized foreign institution.
- A resume or curriculum vitae.
- A personal statement describing your interests in historic preservation and the reasons you wish to pursue a graduate certificate in the field (1,000 words maximum).
- Two letters of recommendation. Note: Recommenders submit their letters directly to the Graduate School. The application requests contact information for two recommenders. Once your application is submitted, the university will contact each person identified and ask that they submit their recommendations directly to the Graduate School. You can log into the online system at any time to see who has submitted an application.
