About the Certificate

This certificate serves graduate students interested in Design-Build and advanced building science related to Architecture, research, digital fabrication, and the construction industry. Centered on the studio learning environment, students will work in trans-disciplinary teams on applied learning opportunities that range from building science and digital fabrication research to community-engaged design and construction challenges across Kentucky. Additionally, the certificate features various support courses in architecture, business, and engineering, including project management, entrepreneurship, fabrication, and materials research.

Architecture students interested in hands-on learning experiences related to the building sciences and fabrication would use this certificate to complement their overall understanding of architecture. Engineering and business students interested in working in the construction industry would benefit from an experiential learning Design-Build opportunity that combines research, innovation, and entrepreneurship with design, building technology, and public outreach.

Admission Requirements

Students are eligible to apply to the program during the first semester of their graduate studies. The application process includes an online form, a written statement explaining their interest and career goals, samples of academic work, and an interview with members of the faculty of record. For students to be admitted, they must have at least a 3.3 GPA from their undergraduate degree or consent of the Certificate Director.
