Virtual Design Summer Camp | June 6-12, 2021

For 7 days over the summer, rising high school juniors, seniors and recent graduates are invited to participate in Studio 38°84 — a virtual week-long camp spent exploring the many opportunities for a career in design. Modeled after the College of Design’s undergraduate curriculum, this online camp will allow students to virtually explore the fabrication lab, learn analog and digital techniques and end the week with work for their portfolio. All virtual participants will be mailed a kit of semi-fabricated materials and tools for a hands-on studio experience in your home. Students will meet and speak with thought leaders from each department in the College of Design.

With an emphasis on thinking through making, students are given an analogous experience of studio culture before entering college. The camp concludes with a final review and virtual gallery showing of student projects.

On-Campus Design Summer Camp | July 11-17, 2021

Studio 38°84 is an immersive summer experience meant to introduce pre-college students to the rich world of architecture, interiors, and product design. Classes are modeled after the College of Design’s undergraduate curriculum and taught by experienced faculty, giving students the opportunity to experience life as a college-level Design student. Emphasis is on thinking through making, and students will have the opportunity to use cutting-edge tools of digital fabrication, immerse themselves in a hands-on design approach, and to meet other students from diverse backgrounds.

Should COVID-19 restrictions change, this section of the camp will move to an online format and attendees will be refunded the difference in fees.
