SOI Student Wins UK Oswald Research and Creativity Competition

Congratulations to third-year SOI student Emily Andreasson who earned first place in the 2019-20 UK Oswald Research and Creativity Competition. The competition award is the outcome of Andreasson’s research project titled “Exploring Contemplative Play: Designing an Interactive Play Sculpture for Diverse Childhood Needs.”

Andreasson carried out summer research toward the design of a contemplative playscape on the grounds of the Lexington Friends Preschool campus to honor the memory of esteemed faculty member and LFP community member Sarah West. This effort is part of a larger research endeavor by professors Lindsey Fay and Jordan Hines who were recently awarded the College of Design Research and Creative Activities Program Grant from the University of Kentucky. The work will continue as part of a collaborative studio this spring between the School of Interiors and the School of Architecture.
