Product Design Students Featured in Design Thinking Course Video
Product Design student Olivia Gascon was recently featured in a UK-produced video about EDL 571, Design Thinking in Education, a course in which students from various disciplines learn to work as a team, think critically, and use creativity to address a very unique and emotional challenge with their community partner, UK’s Markey Cancer Center.
My experience from this course was incredible,” said Gascon. “I learned many things, but the most important was how to navigate through a project, and how to bring a positive outlook to class and projects. The environment of the class with faculty, professors and students, was an incredible experience to walk into every day. It was an experience that I want to take into a future career, and I am grateful to have worked with everyone throughout this semester.”
The transdisciplinary course was co-taught by John Nash in UK’s Educational Leadership department and Dr. Ryan Hargrove in Landscape Architecture. Gascon was the first Product Design student involved, and second-year Product Design student Gabriel Portugal Ticona is currently enrolled in the course. Like Gascon, he finds great value in the experience, stating, “EDL 571 has been an enriching experience into the design process. I learned to navigate the phases of Discovery, Interpretation, and Implementation as I worked with my team to improve the structure of meetings for professionals. This class has greatly enhanced my design work, and I am excited to share this new understanding with my peers.”
