PRD 520/ID359: Topics in Design Management (open to all students)

Our world is filled with products but what, really, goes into each one? In this introduction to the world of product design, we examine a series of existing products to trace the origins, use, and ultimately the end-of-life of each design. We will explore and analyze the myriad — and often conflicting — design considerations for these products such as ergonomics, materials, and manufacturing to answer the question: “What is behind the thing?” After taking this course, you will be equipped with a mindset and a series of lenses to continue examining the world of products around you.
