Choreographing Concrete

As part of Concrete Week 2022, Emily Baker, Assistant Professor at the University of Arkansas, will give a lecture on Monday, November 7 at 2pm in Pence 209. Titled Choreographing Concrete, the talk will discuss several constructed experiments in casting and the novel approaches to forming and reinforcing that catalyzed the ideas. Early experiments in “folded tilt-up” explore the formal language that emerges from structural and construction processes. Recent work called Zip-Formwork, done in collaboration with researchers at MIT and the University of Arkansas, explores an easy and inexpensive means of producing formwork for shape-optimized and curving concrete structures.

Hosted by the UK School of Architecture, Concrete Week is an annual series of lectures, presentations and activities featuring a range of advanced techniques and perspectives focused on reinforced concrete applications.
