Andreasson Receives 2021 Breathitt Undergraduate Lectureship

The School of Interiors (SoI) in the UK College of Design is pleased to announce that Emily Andreasson, a fourth-year student, is the recipient of the 2021 Breathitt Undergraduate Lectureship. Only one student at the University of Kentucky is awarded this honor each year.

Andreasson will present her lecture, Ellipsis: Creating Space for Expression and Healing Amidst the Liminal Experience of Displacement, on Thursday, April 1 at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend this virtual event; you must pre-register via this Eventbrite link. Special thanks to SoI Professors Lindsey Fay, Patrick Lee Lucas and Helen Turner for their support of Andreasson’s project.

“Emily is an exceptional student and worthy of such an exceptional award,” said SoI Interim Director Rebekah Radtke. “She has brought her thoughtfulness to our program over the past four years, and I am delighted she will get to share her intelligence as the Breathitt Lecturer, communicating the value of design to the broader UK community.”

This award was established to honor Edward T. Breathitt, an eminent Kentuckian (Governor of KY, 1963-67) and an outstanding alumnus of the University of Kentucky whose interest in higher education and the humanities was exceptional, this lectureship is awarded to an undergraduate whose qualities of mind and spirit have been expressed eloquently on one of more of the basic concerns of the humanities: form, value, and memory.
