Black Box Interviews

At the College of Design, we are in the position to host some of design’s most revered professionals. Each year, our line-up of guest lecturers continues to inspire, and here we share some of the one-on-one interviews from our Black Box series.

Ned Kaufman, Ph.D.

Dr. Ned Kaufman is principal of Kaufman Heritage Conservation and Adjunct Professor of Historic Preservation at Columbia University. He participated in the 2017 HP Hybrid Field School and agreed to share his thoughts on the future of historic preservation. Previously, Dr. Kaufman served as director of historic preservation at the Municipal Art Society of New York, where he led campaigns to protect the African Burial Ground, Audubon Ballroom, Ellis and Governors Islands, and other historic sites.

Dayton Eugene Egger

In Fall 2016, the College of Design was honored to host D. Eugene Egger - The Patrick and Nancy Lathrop Professor Emeritus at Virginia Tech School of Architecture + Design - for a lecture and gallery exhibition of his two-dimensional renderings. Here, we talk with Egger about his love of sketch and how it helps to visualize the world around us.
