Chris Birkentall, NCIDQ, IIDA, CKBD,LEED-GA, Reg ID-IL, comes to the School of Interiors in the UK College of Design with years of practice and teaching. Prior to UK, Birkentall was a Visiting Assistant Professor at Rochester Institute of Technology and professor at Harrington College of Design in Chicago. She earned her Master of Arts in Interior Design, with a Master Certificate in Historic Preservation from Savannah College of Art and Design. Birkentall’s expertise is in the profession of the interiors industry, teaching professional practice courses and studio. Her award-winning firm, Studio 626, continues to operate for over 20 years, previously in Oak Park, IL, now located in Versailles, KY. She annually supervises students at NeoCon, the industry showcase of products held in Chicago, where she judges the Best of NeoCon competition for Contract magazine. Birkentall has presented at the Interior Design Educators Council regional and national conferences on topics of pedagogy and design thinking. She has served on the boards of the International Interior Design Association, both in New York and Illinois, and on the IL board for the National Kitchen and Bath Association. She is the current Midwest Director of the Interior Design Educators Council and the chairperson for the Annual Student Design Competition for IDEC.
