Welcome! A Message from the students.
SPRING 2008
FALL 2007
The semester is flying by! We have been busy exploring this exciting city, working on our studio project, and stories and drawings for Liz’s classes. If Mardi Gras is better than Halloween on Frenchmen Street, then we will all be back for sure! Some of our favorite things to do are: Thursday nights at Vaughn’s to see Kermit Ruffins play, walking around the French Quarter and shopping on Magazine Street, finding new places to eat. Sloppy Po’Boys and Hubig’s Pies with a Barq’s Rootbeer from Frady’s is always a great Bywater treat too!
We are currently working on the master plan for an event space located in City Park. This past weekend we went to Voodoo Fest to see what a large music event is like in New Orleans, and specifically the park for which we are designing. Program elements include, but are not limited to, a main amphitheater, smaller pavilions, lagoons, space for festivals, and an education center. We recently had our midterm review and received a lot of valuable insight from local designers and environmental experts that we can hopefully incorporate into our final design. Our next step is to further develop our plan and the design elements for our final presentation to City Park officials.
Each Thursday we have taken a field trip to a different location in New Orleans. So far we have been on a river boat tour, had beignets at Café du Monde, the Audobon Zoo, gone to a Mardi Gras den to see the float-making process, taken a cemetery tour, and next week we are off to the swamp! These trips have been a great way to really see all of the corners of New Orleans. We are currently writing a narrative piece about our personal interests and experiences in New Orleans and creating a collage/drawing that relates. The final product will be published in Volume II of the book Stories of New Orleans.
We have all had a wonderful time so far and wish we could prolong these last few weeks.

SPRING 2007
After much delay: studio projects consuming our time, more appealing diversions, Mardis Gras, and yet more diversions, this website is finally up and running! Ideally, this blog has been created so that you can follow the goings-on of our studio in New Orleans. It will certainly be a little less formal than last semester's blogging, which you can still access through the archives.
Too much has happened since we arrived in January for me to cover in great detail. Our semester started with a flurry of meetings revolving around Dunbar's Creole Restaurant. We met with the Dunbars, Neighborhood Housing Services, the Planning Guy, the Fire Code Guy, the Kitchen Guy, all within two or three weeks time. We've since been plugging away at the restaurant and wrapping up the final details of Mickey Markey Park. We met with the New Orleans Recreation Department (NORD), this past Friday, and it looks as if the construction will actually be moving forward.
Meanwhile work on Dunbar's Restaurant has been moving fast. Our midterm review is Friday, and there's a lot of detail to fill in between now and then. We met with Tina and Peggy Dunbar last Wednesday, and they really liked the ideas Katie and I had come up with. Her energy and enthusiasm were really encouraging, and she had many ideas for what the restaurant could become.
In between classes, there's been Mardis Gras, and so much more stuff. And things are only beginning to pick up.... Make sure you check back regularly, however, as there's still a lot of content to fill on this website. Photos of last semester will be coming soon, as will images of our projects to date.
