Gary Rohrbacher

Associate Professor

Gary Rohrbacher, AIA, pursues architecture equally through practice, research and teaching. As a practitioner, he is focused on the integration of design, theory and technology in the firm he co-founded with Associate Professor Anne Filson in 2007, Filson and Rohrbacher.

In 2010, collaborating with UK’s KRCEE, and CAER, Rohrbacher founded the Atomic Cities Research Group, focused on the USDOE’s Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant site in western Kentucky.

In 2012, Filson and Rohrbacher launched AtFAB open-source furniture. A pioneer in distributed manufacturing, AtFAB is downloaded worldwide, has been written about and exhibited widely, was acquired by the French Centre National Arts Plastiques (’13), and cited as an example of a top 10 emerging technology by the World Economic Forum Technology subcommittee (’15).

Rohrbacher holds degrees from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (SMArchS), Columbia University (MArch), and Lehigh University (BA). In 2016, he was named University Research Professor at the University of Kentucky.
